Clean Energy in Pennsylvania is under attack.Four bills to implement the Energy Independence Strategy (EIS) have been introduced in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. But amendments have been introduced that would destroy clean energy in Pennsylvania.

Specifically, three amendments to House Bill 1203 would kill renewable energy requirements in the state’s clean energy law by adding waste coal, tires and paper pulp mill waste into Tier 1 of the Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard. Tier 1 currently requires Pennsylvania’s electricity suppliers to provide increasing amounts of clean energy, including solar, wind, low-impact hydro, geothermal, fuel cells, biomass and methane from landfills and farms. By adding dirty power sources to the clean requirements, true clean renewable energy will be squeezed out of the market.

These bills and amendments may be considered as early as this Monday, June 18. These amendments must be stopped - and all four bills implementing the Energy Independence Strategy must move forward immediately.

TAKE ACTION! Contact your legislator immediately and ask her/him to vote no on these killer amendments - don’t pollute our clean energy standard! We must move forward, not backward. Pass HB 1200, HB 1201, HB 1202 now, and pass HB 1203 quickly, without the killer amendments. You may have already taken action on this issue, and we thank you, but new calls and emails are urgently needed now. Every member is important.
